Celtics attempt to put together winning streak vs. Bulls

(Basketball News) - The Boston Celtics try to win back-to-back games for the first time this season when they conclude a four-game homestand against the Chicago Bulls at TD Banknorth Garden.

On Wednesday, Paul Pierce recorded 32 points and 11 rebounds to lead Boston past the Philadelphia 76ers, 110-103. Ricky Davis chipped in 26 points, while Kendrick Perkins contributed 12 points and a game-best 19 boards for the Celtics, who have won two of their last three games.

Chris Webber gave the Sixers an 87-86 advantage on a jump shot with less than seven minutes to go in the game, but Boston scored the next five points to claim a 91-87 lead.

Boston never relinquished the lead after that and cruised to the seven-point win.

The Celtics, who will start a five-game road trip in New York on Sunday, are 6-4 in their building this season.

Chicago, meanwhile, enters tonight’s tilt on a losing note after dropping a 109-101 decision to the Knicks on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden.

Ben Gordon had a season-high 28 points and Andres Nocioni posted 19 for the Bulls, who had a four-game winning streak halted.

Chicago led by eight after three quarters, but was outscored 13-0 to open the fourth and never recovered, as it fell behind 100-90 and trailed by 13 points late in the game.

The Bulls, who will return home for two games after tonight’s affair, are 3-5 away from home this season.

Chicago split its four meetings with the Celtics last year but has won five of the last eight meetings. The Bulls have also won two of their last three in Beantown.
