Tucker and Wisconsin down Minnesota

Madison, WI (Basketball News) - Alando Tucker had 14 points and six rebounds, as fourth-ranked Wisconsin defeated Minnesota, 68-45, in the Badgers’ Big Ten opener.

Kammron Taylor had 13 points, while Michael Flowers netted 11 points and recorded three steals for the Badgers (15-1, 1-0 Big Ten), who have won 11 straight since suffering their only loss of the season.

Wisconsin defeated Minnesota for the ninth time in the last 10 meetings.

Dan Coleman had a game-high 15 points to go along with five rebounds for the Golden Gophers (7-9, 1-1), who had a modest two-game winning streak ended. Spencer Tollackson added 11 points and six boards in the loss.

The Gophers lost to Wisconsin at home for the 11th straight time.

Minnesota was in control early, as back-to-back baskets by Tollackson, followed with a free throw by Jonathan Williams put the Golden Gophers ahead 13-6 with 11:40 left in the first half.

Wisconsin then rattled off six straight to get within one, and later used an 8-0 run to take a 20-15 edge. Marcus Landry netted the last four points of the run.

An 11-0 burst by the Badgers increased their lead, as Trevon Hughes three- pointer made it 31-16 with 2:54 remaining until the break. Wisconsin then carried a 37-20 advantage into the break.

Wisconsin then opened up the second half on an 11-4 burst, as Taylor’s three- pointer put the Badgers up 48-24 midway through the second half.

Game Notes

Wisconsin shot 42.9 percent from the floor to Minnesota’s 34.7 percent... Minnesota defeated Purdue in its conference opener on Wednesday...The Gophers still hold a 97-85 lead in the all-time series.
