James leads Marquette to easy win over Detroit 11.14.2006

Marquette (2-0) will face either Texas Tech or Arkansas-Little Rock next Monday in Kansas City.
Wesley Matthews scored 15 and knocked down 3-of-4 three-point attempts for Marquette. Lazar Hayward scored 14, and David Cubillan added 10 for the Golden Eagles.
Ryvon Covile led Detroit (1-1) with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Brandon Cotton was the only other Detroit player to hit double figures with 11 points.
Marquette put an end to any upset hopes for Detroit early, running out to a 22-9 lead in the game’s opening minutes. A lay-up by Detroit’s Chris Hayes cut the deficit to 27-16, but Marquette closed the first half on a 19-6 run, spotting the Golden Eagles to a 46-22 halftime lead.
It was much of the same in the second half for Detroit, as the Golden Eagles pushed their lead to over 20 points early in the half and never let up. Marquette closed the game on a 12-3 run to provide the final 42-point margin.
