(Basketball News) - Steve Nash scored six of his 28 points in overtime, and Dirk Nowitzki collected 31 points and 10 rebounds, as the Dallas Mavericks survived a New York rally and beat the Knicks, 127-121, on Monday at Madison Square Garden.
Michael Finley added 25 points and 10 boards, and Antawn Jamison chipped in with 23 points as the Mavericks snapped a two-game slide. Antoine Walker rounded out the balanced effort with 14 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists for his first triple-double of the season.
New York trailed by as many as 20 points in the third quarter, but rallied with a strong fourth. The Knicks scored six points in a five-second span at the end of the game to send it into overtime.
Dallas scored first in overtime, however, taking the lead for good on Nowitzki’s free throws that made it 117-115 just 20 seconds in. The Knicks were within 121-119 at the 1:00 mark, but the Mavericks used a 6-0 run, capped by Nowitzki’s foul shots in the waning moments, to seal it.
The Mavs were again without forward Josh Howard, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury. However, the rookie guard could return on Wednesday against Philadelphia.
