Did the New York Knicks ’Spy’ on Larry Brown?

01.23.2008 - Updated on 01.23.2008

Knicks fans may have had a tough time watching the team during the Larry Brown era, but the former Knicks coach claims that team officials had their eyes on everything that happened at the Garden during his one-year stint in New York. Brown said in a story in the February issue of Philadelphia Magazine that he thought the Knicks had ’spies throughout the arena’ during his one season on the Knicks bench.

Brown, who coached the Knicks to a 23-59 record in 2005-06, was fired for talking to reporters without a Garden PR official present, which is a no-no under the team’s strict and strange media policy.Brown’s claims bolster those of Knicks beat writers, who were quoted in a December story in the New York Observer as complaining that team public-relations officials record every interview they have with players. A Daily News reporter said that he was followed around by team officials. Click here for more from the New York Daily News.
