Jones was acquired by Memphis from Miami in a five-team trade in August of 2005. In 104 games with the Grizzlies, Jones averaged 10.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
Through 872 career games, Jones has tallied 15.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.
The Heat also waived guard Robert Hite on Thursday.
Two prominent players also returned to the lineup on Thursday, as the Heat hosted the Cleveland Cavaliers. Miami center Shaquille O’Neal, who sat out the last two games because of a calf injury, started. Cavaliers forward LeBron James, who had missed two of the last three contests due to a sprained right big toe, also started.
