Frye and Knicks roll past Washington

01.6.2006

New York, NY (Basketball News) - Channing Frye scored a career-high tying 30 points to lead the New York Knicks over the Washington Wizards, 113-92, at Madison Square Garden.

Stephon Marbury added 16 points and 11 assists for the Knicks, who have won consecutive games for just the second time this season. New York outlasted Phoenix in three overtimes last time out, 140-133, on Monday.

Frye, who sparked a 26-6 run that bridged the final two quarters, hit 11-of-13 shots off the bench as New York’s reserves outscored Washington’s 56-21. Fellow rookie Nate Robinson, who stands at just 5-foot-9, added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Knicks, who are 2-0 in January after going just 2-12 in December.

Antawn Jamison and Gilbert Arenas each had 22 points for the Wizards, who have lost four in a row.

The game was close until the Knicks used a 14-3 run more than midway through the third to pull away. Ahead 66-65 with under 4 1/2 minutes to play in the stanza, Frye sparked the run with eight points, giving New York an 80-68 cushion heading into the final 12 minutes.

The Knicks continued to roll in the fourth, scoring 12 of the first 15 points of the stanza to open up a 92-71 advantage. Maurice Taylor had four points for New York during the outburst, ending it with a bucket 3 1/2 minutes into the frame for the 21-point lead.

The cushion later ballooned to 23 points, 98-75, on a Taylor bucket just over two minutes later.

Washington, which hit just 4-of-18 shots from the floor in the decisive third quarter, led 30-25 after one quarter but trailed 52-51 heading into halftime.

Taylor ended with 12 points and Eddy Curry had 13 for the Knicks, who recorded their largest margin of victory this season.
