Gasol playing hard for Grizzlies

03.26.2007

(Basketball News) - The Memphis Grizzlies (17-53) own the worst record in the league, and hope they will have luck on their side at this year’s NBA Lottery. The Grizzlies three-year postseason run is coming to an end. They were 0-12 during their three playoff appearances.

Forward Pau Gasol, who was the subject of trade rumors throughout the season, continues to play hard and put up impressive numbers. Gasol leads the Grizzlies in scoring (21.3 ppg) and rebounding (9.6 rpg). He has scored in double-digits in 46 of 47 games this season and has collected 26 double- doubles this season.

Gasol has collected a double-double in five straight outings and is averaging 26.4 points and 14.0 rebounds in that span. The 7-0 Spaniard has logged at least 35 minutes in seven straight contests.

The Phoenix Suns try to get back on the winning track when they host the Grizzlies on Monday at US Airways Center. It is the third of four meetings between the clubs this season. Phoenix won the two previous contests and has captured three in a row in the series.

Memphis has lost two straight after winning its last two at Phoenix. The Suns will visit Memphis on April 3rd at FedExForum.

The Grizzlies have dropped three in a row and will play the second of a six- game road trip against Phoenix. Carlos Boozer scored 28 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, as the Utah Jazz topped the Grizzlies, 118-108, on Saturday at EnergySolutions Arena.

Dahntay Jones scored 26 points for the Grizzlies, who have lost 11 of their last 13 games overall. Gasol poured in 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Tarance Kinsey added 20 points for Memphis.

The Grizzlies are a brutal 5-29 on the road this season. They will also visit the Lakers, Portland, Seattle and Golden State on the current swing.

On the injury front for Memphis, guard Damon Stoudamire (sore right knee) is doubtful and guard Mike Miller (patella tendinitis) is questionable for Monday’s contest. Stoudamire is averaging 7.5 points and a team-best 4.8 assists, while Miller has posted 18.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game this season.

Memphis is scheduled to play seven of its final 12 games on the road. The Grizzlies will host the Suns, Golden State, Sacramento, Denver and San Antonio in their final home games.
