Bobby Jackson had 21 points and Eddie Jones scored 11 for Memphis, which has won six in a row and 10 of its last 12 games.
David West and Desmond Mason each had 15 points for the Hornets, losers of two straight.
Layups from Mike Miller and Jackson at the end of the first quarter gave the Grizzlies a 19-18 edge.
Memphis used an 8-2 run to move to a 29-23 lead with 9:04 left until halftime. Jackson capped the spurt with a three-pointer and the Grizzlies extended to a 50-39 cushion at the intermission.
Nine straight points from the Grizzlies moved their lead to 64-45 with 6:19 to go in the third. Shane Battier’s three-pointer started the burst. The lead grew to as many as 21 points, as Jackson’s layup made it 70-49 with 2:20 to play in the quarter.
Ahead 70-53 through three quarters, the Grizzlies coasted in the final 12 minutes.
