Montgomery, who does not have any coaching experience in the NBA, led Stanford to a 30-2 record this past season on the way to Pac-10 Coach of the Year honors. He had spent the last 18 years with the Cardinal.
The Warriors could lose center Erick Dampier and point guard Nick Van Exel, who have the option to opt out of their contracts. The 32-year-old Van Exel did miss 43 games during the regular season due to injuries.
Golden State has some young and exciting players in guard Jason Richardson and forward Mike Dunleavy Jr. The Warriors will draft the best player available at No. 11.
St. Joe’s Jameer Nelson and Arizona’s Andre Iguodala could be there for Golden State to pick up.
