Grizzlies enter Kings’ court

11.25.2003

Sacramento, CA (Basketball News) - The Memphis Grizzlies complete a three-game West Coast swing tonight when they enter ARCO Arena to face the powerful Sacramento Kings.

After defeating Seattle, 98-97, on Friday, the Grizzlies were pounded by the Los Angeles Lakers, 121-89, on Sunday evening. The Lakers played without superstar center Shaquille O’Neal, who missed the game with a strained calf.

Shane Battier scored 18 points to lead the Grizzlies and Mike Miller had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Pau Gasol finished with 14 points, as Memphis lost for just the second time in six games. The Grizzlies dropped to 0-17 all-time against the Lakers in LA.

The Kings have been on fire lately, winning five straight and six of their last seven contests.

Sacramento’s latest victory came on Sunday night when it defeated the Chicago Bulls, 110-99. It was the second contest in an eight-game homestand for the Kings.

Peja Stojakovic tallied 21 points and eight rebounds to lead Sacramento. Anthony Peeler added 18 points for the Kings, who have won nine straight meetings with the Bulls. Bobby Jackson contributed 16 points, as Sacramento improved to 7-0 at home this season.

Sacramento has owned the all-time series with the Grizzlies, holding a 26-6 record. The Kings have won seven straight and 12 of the last 13 meetings.

Sacramento has been even more impressive at home against the Grizzlies, winning 10 straight at ARCO.

The Grizzlies are just 1-15 all-time in Sacramento with their only win coming in overtime on April 19, 1998.

This season, the Kings have been the most potent offensive team in the NBA. They lead the league in points per game (104.9), field goal percentage (.476) and three-point percentage (.421).
