Grizzlies get defensive in pounding of Toronto

11.30.2005

Toronto, ON (Basketball News) - Damon Stoudamire scored 19 points, as the Memphis Grizzlies continued their domination of the Toronto Raptors with a 92-66 victory at Air Canada Centre.

Eddie Jones tallied 18 points and Pau Gasol contributed 15 points and 10 rebounds for Memphis, which beat the Raptors for the sixth straight time.

Bobby Jackson added 12 points and eight assists for the Grizzlies, winners of three straight and seven of nine games.

Chris Bosh had 15 points and Morris Peterson added 14 for Toronto, which continued its worst start in franchise history by slipping to 1-15 this season. Toronto’s only win came November 20 at home versus Miami.

The Raptors have lost six consecutive games since and Wednesday’s defeat was especially ugly, as Toronto never led, shot just 34.7 percent from the field and fell behind by 23 points at halftime.

Memphis scored the final 12 points of the opening quarter to lead 32-17. Jones had the first six points of the spurt, which ended on Jackson’s jumper at the end of the period.

A 12-4 push in the second quarter extended the Grizzlies to a 51-29 cushion with 5:07 left in the half following a jumper from Stoudamire, and Memphis held a commanding 58-35 cushion at the break.

Stoudamire’s three-point play capped 10 consecutive points from the Grizzlies in the third quarter, as they extended to a 29-point margin. Memphis’ lead stood at 73-49 going into the fourth, and the boos rained down from the Air Canada Centre crowd at the end of the game.
