Grizzlies just don’t have it

12.8.2006

(Basketball News) - The Memphis Grizzlies are just 5-13 and sit in last place in the Southwest Division. They are already 8 1/2 games behind the division-leading San Antonio Spurs.

The Grizzlies play the finale of a three-game road trip when they visit the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday at the Bradley Center. It is the first of two meetings between the squads this season. The Grizzlies are scheduled to host Milwaukee on December 27th at the FedExForum.

The Grizzlies have lost two of their last three at Milwaukee. Memphis has won three of the last four games in the series.

Memphis is 1-1 on the current swing. Rookie Rudy Gay hit the game-winning jump shot with 2.6 seconds on the clock, as the Grizzlies edged the Boston Celtics, 98-96, on Wednesday at TD Banknorth Garden.

Chucky Atkins scored 19 points and dished out six assists in the win over Boston for the Grizzlies, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Dahntay Jones and Lawrence Roberts both scored 18, while Hakim Warrick and Mike Miller added 12 points apiece in the victory.

The Grizzlies, who attempt to win back-to-back games against Milwaukee for the first time this season, are just 2-9 as the visitor.

Memphis returns home to host Elton Brand and the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday at the FedExForum. It will be the second meeting of the season between the squads. On November 29th, Cuttino Mobley scored 22 of his 24 points in the first half as the Clippers cruised to a 105-90 victory over Memphis at the Staples Center. The Clippers have lost two straight at the Grizzlies. Memphis has still won four of the last six contests in this series.

Warrick leads the Grizzlies in scoring (15.7 ppg), Miller has grabbed a team- high 6.4 rebounds and dished out a club-best 4.1 assists per game. Warrick has scored in double-digits in seven straight games and is averaging 17.9 points per game in that span.

The Grizzlies are 1-3 when they score more than 100 points this season.
