Hawks, Magic meet at Philips Arena

11.5.2006

(Basketball News) - The Orlando Magic play their first road game of the 2006-07 season, as they visit the Atlanta Hawks this afternoon at Philips Arena.

Orlando started the campaign by splitting a pair of games at home. On Friday, Allen Iverson hit a floating bank shot with 2.2 seconds on the clock to lift the Philadelphia 76ers over the Magic, 105-103, at TD Waterhouse Centre. Orlando won its season opener on Wednesday at home over the Chicago Bulls, 109-94.

Grant Hill finished with a team-high 25 points and Hedo Turkoglu totaled 15 points and nine rebounds in the loss to the Sixers for Orlando. Rising star Dwight Howard scored 14 and pulled down nine boards, while Jameer Nelson contributed 14 points and three assists.

After today’s contest, the Magic return home to host Washington on Monday and Seattle on Wednesday.

Atlanta attempts to record its second straight win. Joe Johnson poured in 30 points and dished out eight assists in Atlanta’s 102-92 victory over the New York Kincks on Friday in the Hawks home opener at Philips Arena.

Zaza Pachulia added 22 points and seven rebounds in the victory for the Hawks, who lost their season opener to Philadelphia on Wednesday. Josh Childress added 12 points and five boards for Atlanta, which shot 47.6 percent from the field.

The Hawks are scheduled to visit LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday and Chris Bosh and the Toronto Raptors on Friday.

Last season, the teams split four games. The Magic have lost three straight after winning their last three at Atlanta.
