Hawks sign top pick Shelden Williams

Atlanta, GA (Basketball News) - The Atlanta Hawks have signed their top draft pick, forward Shelden Williams, to a contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Williams was the fifth overall selection of the 2006 draft after a stellar career at Duke. He was a First-Team All-America as a senior after averaging a career-high 18.7 points and 10.7 rebounds for the Blue Devils.

The 6-foot-9 Williams became just the third player in NCAA history to record at least 1,500 points, 1,000 rebounds, 350 blocked shots and 150 steals, joining Navy’s David Robinson and Louisville’s Pervis Ellison.
