"It’s obviously great to have Zo back," said Heat president and head coach Pat Riley. "We know how important he is to the city, this franchise, and in helping us try to repeat as NBA champions. It’s a good day for the Miami Heat."
Mourning, who has battled kidney ailments in recent years, was a key member of Miami’s championship club. He averaged 7.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and a team-high 2.66 blocks in 65 regular-season games, then contributed 3.8 points, 2.9 rebounds in 21 playoff games during the Heat’s championship run.
"I’m very excited about re-signing with the Heat," Mourning said in a release. "I love this organization, the fans and the whole South Florida community and I’m happy to have the opportunity to join my teammates and defend our championship this season."
In his 15 NBA seasons, the Georgetown product has averaged 18.3 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.9 blocks.
