Davis, who will miss at least five contests, hurt his back during the fourth quarter of last Friday’s loss to Atlanta and did not make the trip to Milwaukee for Saturday’s game against the Bucks. The injury was first diagnosed as a strain, but an MRI exam revealed the inflamed disc.
The 25-year-old Davis is averaging 24.6 points and 8.0 assists per game, both team-highs. He also had back problems during the 2002-03 campaign, missing eight games with spasms.
Meanwhile, the club activated guard Tim Pickett from the injured list. Pickett, who was selected by the Hornets in the second round of the 2004 NBA Draft, started the season on the IL with back spasms. He will miss Wednesday’s game versus Phoenix with flu-like symptoms.
