Hornets send Davis to Warriors

Originally selected out of UCLA after his sophomore season by the Charlotte Hornets in the first round (third pick overall) of the 1999 NBA Draft, Baron Davis has been hampered by injuries this season and has played just 18 games for the Hornets. The 6-3 Davis has averaged 18.9 points and 7.2 assists when he has been on the court in the 2004-05 campaign.

Davis, who turns 26 on April 13th, has played in 381 games during his career and has averaged 15.3 points and 6.7 assists. The former Hornet has appeared in 35 playoff games and has registered 18.1 points per game in the postseason.

He played his first game in more than a month for the Hornets on Wednesday, as he contributed five points and five assists in 19 minutes during New Orleans’ 103-85 home loss to the Seattle SuperSonics.

The 26-year-old Claxton, who was originally drafted out of Hofstra by the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round (20th pick overall) of the 2000 NBA Draft, averaged 13.1 points and a team-high 6.2 assists in 46 games for the Warriors this season. He will most likely share the point guard duties with Dan Dickau in New Orleans.

Dale Davis, 35, is playing in his 14th season in the league. He posted 3.1 points and 4.3 rebounds in 36 contests for Golden State this season. Davis, who is in the last year of his contract, has also played for the Indiana Pacers and Portland Trail Blazers during his career.

This is the second major deal for the Hornets prior to Thursday’s trade deadline. Earlier in the day the Hornets acquired Glenn Robinson from the Philadelphia 76ers for forwards Jamal Mashburn and Rodney Rogers.
