Hughes led the Wizards to a 3-0 mark last week, as he averaged 23.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 3.67 steals per contest. On January 12 versus Portland, Hughes scored 20 points in the second half of a 104-100 win. The Wizards also defeated Milwaukee and Phoenix last week.
Unfortunately, Hughes suffered a fractured thumb during the contest against the Suns on Saturday and is expected to be sidelined four-to-six weeks.
McGrady helped the Rockets to an identical 3-0 record last week, averaging 25.3 points and 7.3 assists per game. McGrady tied a season-high with 11 assists and buried six three-pointers in a January 12 victory over Dallas. The Rockets also defeated New Jersey and San Antonio last week.
Other nominees for Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were Chicago’s Kirk Hinrich, Cleveland’s LeBron James, Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki, Detroit’s Richard Hamilton, Indiana’s Jermaine O’Neal, the Clippers’ Corey Maggette, Portland’s Damon Stoudemire, Seattle’s Ray Allen and Toronto’s Morris Peterson.
