Jazz, Sonics square off in Salt Lake City

04.7.2007

(Basketball News) - The Northwest Division-champion Utah Jazz are back at home and will host the Seattle SuperSonics this evening at EnergySolutions Arena.

Utah just went 1-3 on a four-game road trip and has lost two in a row, including Friday’s 107-103 setback to the Sacramento Kings at ARCO Arena.

Mehmet Okur recorded a game-best 24 points with eight rebounds for the Jazz, who are fourth in the Western Conference standings. Carlos Boozer had 17 points and six rebounds, Gordan Giricek contributed 16 points, and both Derek Fisher and Matt Harpring had 14 points in defeat.

The Jazz have won seven straight at home and will try to work on their 29-7 record as the host this season. On the injury front for Utah, forward Andrei Kirilenko (thumb) and guard Deron Williams (groin) are questionable for Saturday’s game against Seattle.

Meanwhile, the Sonics have dropped four in a row and suffered a 112-109 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday at KeyArena.

Chris Wilcox turned in 32 points and 18 rebounds to lead the Sonics, who are preparing for the upcoming offseason. Damien Wilkins added 25 points in the setback, while Earl Watson added 16 points and eight assists.

Seattle guard Luke Ridnour was carried off the court after injuring his left ankle in the first quarter. He did not return and is expected to miss today’s game against Utah.

The Sonics are 10-27 away from the Emerald City this season.

Saturday’s contest between Utah and Seattle is the fourth and final meeting of the regular season. The Jazz are 2-1 so far in the series, but the SuperSonics have won four of the last six encounters.

Seattle, though, has lost 10 of its last 13 games in Salt Lake City.
