Jefferson, Carter lead Nets past Toronto

Jefferson went 9-for-17 on the night, including 5-of-8 from three-point range, as the Nets won their first game of the young season. Jefferson also made 12- of-14 foul shots.

Vince Carter, playing his second game in Toronto since being traded to the Nets last season, had 20 points, seven rebounds, and six assists in the win.

Jason Kidd added 17 points for New Jersey, which has won five of the last seven games against the Raptors.

Jose Calderon and Morris Peterson both had 20 points off the bench for Toronto, which is 0-2 on the season after losing its opener on Tuesday to the Washington Wizards.

Jalen Rose, who opened up the season with 20 points against the Wizards, had only eight on 3-for-11 shooting in the loss. Chris Bosh added 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Raptors after his double-double on Tuesday.

The Nets had a 27-19 lead after the first quarter with the help of a 12-2 run. Jefferson, who nailed a three-pointer with 52 seconds left, led all scorers with 15 points in the frame.

New Jersey kept up the pressure in the second period as it outscored Toronto 18-9, and went into the half with a 45-28 lead

Toronto shot just 28 percent in the first 24 minutes.

The Nets increased their lead to 76-57 after three quarters, but Toronto came alive in the beginning of the fourth. The Raptors cut the New Jersey lead to nine points at 86-77, but a pair of three-pointers by Jefferson highlighted a 10-2 New Jersey run to kill any hopes of a Toronto comeback.
