Knicks try and get on track in Chicago

01.18.2006

(Basketball News) - The New York Knicks will likely be without guard Stephon Marbury this evening when they visit the Chicago Bulls at the United Center.

Marbury injured his shoulder while trying to fight through a pick in Monday’s 96-90 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves at Madison Square Garden. X-rays after the game revealed that Marbury, who had 20 points before leaving, suffered a sprained left shoulder, but did not have a fracture.

If Marbury misses tonight’s game, he will end the NBA’s fifth longest active games-played streak at 280.

Quentin Richardson contributed 14 points and seven rebounds, while Eddy Curry had 12 points and six boards in the loss, New York’s second in a row following a six-game winning streak.

Curry will be facing the Bulls tonight for the first time since they dealt him in the offseason. He missed the first matchup of the season with a calf injury.

The Knicks, who will return home for four games after tonight’s tilt, are a dismal 4-14 away from home this season.

Chicago, meanwhile, comes in on a three-game losing streak after falling at home on Monday to the Denver Nuggets, 97-94.

Kirk Hinrich had a team-high 20 points and Darius Songaila netted 15 to go along with nine boards for the Bulls, who have dropped 11 of 14.

Chris Duhon had 14 points and eight assists in the loss.

The Bulls led 91-86 with 2:12 remaining, but the visitors used a game- clinching 10-0 run, highlighted by four points each from Anthony and Martin, to grab a 96-91 advantage with five seconds left.

Ben Gordon drained a late three, but it was too little and too late for Chicago.

The Bulls, who will close a four-game homestand against the Houston Rockets on Friday, are 8-10 in their arena this season.

New York defeated Chicago earlier in the season, but could be at a disadvantage tonight, as the road team in this series has lost five of seven and 14 of the last 19 meetings. The Knicks have also lost three straight and eight of their last nine in the Windy City.
