06.8.2004

Los Angeles, CA (Basketball News) - Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal combined for 25 points in the first half to give the Lakers a 44-36 lead over Detroit at intermission in Game 2 of the NBA Finals.

Bryant scored 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting and O’Neal had 12 for the Lakers, who are looking to rebound from a disappointing 87-75 loss in Game 1. Luke Walton added seven points in 12 minutes off the bench for LA.

The Lakers shot 41 percent in the first half to 35 percent for the Pistons, who got a team-high 12 points from Richard Hamilton.

In the first quarter LA got five points from its bench, which scored just four points on 1-of-12 shooting in all of Game 1. Walton had two and Kareem Rush made a three-pointer in the final minute that gave LA its 18-16 lead heading into the second.

The Lakers then ended the second quarter with a 13-5 run for their eight-point halftime advantage.

Game 3 is scheduled for Thursday in Detroit.
