Mavericks waive Michael Finley 08.16.2005

The 32-year-old Finley averaged 15.7 points per game in 2004-05 and is a two- time All-Star. Finley was obtained by Dallas in December, 1996 from Phoenix and then re-signed following the 2000-2001 season.
"Michael has played a huge role in rebuilding this franchise and taking it to where it is today," said president of basketball operations Don Nelson. "This has been a very difficult process for all of us. We thank him and wish him nothing but the best."
Finley parts ways with the Mavericks as a leader in several major categories, including fourth in points (12,389) and sixth in rebounds (3,245).
"He is a winner in every sense of the word and I am proud to have shared a locker room with him," added Nelson.
In the postseason, Finley has started 56 career games, all with Dallas, and netted 17.8 ppg to along with 5.2 rpg.
Throughout his 11-year career, including two years with the Suns, the product of Wisconsin has averaged 19 points and 3.7 assists per game.
Dallas used this move as its one-time amnesty exception.
