Mavs hit the saddle for Portland

03.9.2006

(Basketball News) - The Dallas Mavericks open a three-game road trip tonight, as they visit the Portland Trail Blazers at the Rose Garden for the finale of a home-and-home set.

This is the fourth and final meeting of the season between the clubs. The Mavericks have won all three contests and will attempt to sweep the season series for a second straight year.

Dallas has won nine straight and 10 of the last 11 meetings in this series. The Mavericks have won four straight at Portland.

The last time Portland defeated the Mavericks was on December 23, 2003.

On Tuesday, Jerry Stackhouse’s three-pointer with 41 ticks remaining provided the dagger and Dallas came from behind to defeat Portland, 93-87, at American Airlines Center.

Stackhouse scored 21 points off the bench, Jason Terry tallied a team-high 26 points and Dirk Nowitzki posted a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds for Dallas, which has won two of its last three contests overall. Dallas also got back on the winning track at home, where it had won a franchise-record 16 straight games before falling to the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday.

Zach Randolph poured in a game-high 33 points and grabbed eight boards, Juan Dixon contributed 17 points and college teammate Steve Blake donated 12 points and five assists for Portland, which has lost three straight games. Darius Miles added 11 points in the loss.

The Mavericks are 19-8 as the visitors this season, while Portland, which plays the first of a brief two-game homestand, is 13-16 as the host in the campaign.

Dallas is scheduled to visit the Utah Jazz on Saturday and the Sacramento Kings on Sunday in the finale of the current road swing.

Portland will host the Phoenix Suns on Sunday at the Rose Garden.
