McGrady appeared to suffer the injury late in the second quarter when he grabbed his lower back following a missed jumper.
The All-Star tried to walk off the court, but eventually collapsed on the floor where he was quickly placed on a stretcher and taken to a local hospital to undergo precautionary tests.
The 26-year-old McGrady, who has already missed eight games this season due to back spasms, had 11 points in the opening half.
Entering this game, McGrady was averaging 25.9 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.1 assists this year.
