(Basketball News) - Eddie Jones scored 25 points as the Miami Heat ended a three-game losing streak Tuesday with a 91-87 win over the New Orleans Hornets at AmericanAirlines Arena.
Jones was 8-of-14 from the field and also pulled down six rebounds for the Heat, who also halted a seven-game losing streak to the Hornets. Lamar Odom posted 19 points, while Udonis Haslem and Loren Woods netted 12 apiece in the win.
Odom sank a pair of foul shots and the Heat were in front, 75-68, early in the fourth quarter. New Orleans then scored 12 of the next 16 points for an 80-79 lead midway through the frame.
Jones and Baron Davis would exchange three-pointers, and the Hornets led by an 83-82 score with less than five minutes to go. Each team went back and forth until Odom buried a three-pointer from the top of the key for an 87-85 Miami lead with 1:21 to go.
P.J. Brown was underneath the basket trying for a game-tying layup, but his attempt was blocked by Brian Grant and Jones. Jones was then immediately fouled and his two shots made it 89-85 with 15.4 seconds remaining. Grant was later sent to the line and his free throws sealed the four-point win.
Grant finished with six points and seven boards for the Heat, who made 49 percent of their shots. Miami also halted a four-game slide to the Hornets on its home court.
The Heat’s next game is on Friday evening when they travel to Atlanta to battle the Hawks.
