Kobe Bryant Refuses To Address Future With L.A. Lakers On Jimmy Kimmel Show

August 11 07

Two days ago, Kobe Bryant appeared on Jimmy Kimmel’s late night talk show. They discussed a range of issues: domestic chores, Harry Potter books, Team USA, growing up in Italy, Shaquille O’Neal, and David Beckham. But they never talked about the one thing fans were most interested in: Bryant’s future with the L.A. Lakers.

Part 1 of Bryant-Kimmel interview:

Part 2 of Bryant-Kimmel interview:

My Quick Take: This interview had boundaries. There were things Kimmel wasn’t allowed to ask Bryant-like whether he plans to suit up for the purple-and-gold. And Bryant continued his policy of non-disclosure. Right or wrong, fair or not, he revealed nothing and said nothing about his career plans.

However, a few points in the interview were worth noting:

1) Bryant laughed when Kimmel joked that the guard must have hurt his back carrying the Lakers last season.

2) Bryant was quite enthusiastic about his experience with Team USA. He’s enjoying playing with other stars; again, another not-so-subtle message for the Lakers’ front office to acquire outside talent.

3) When Kimmel brought up his future with the Lakers, Bryant simply nodded and smiled. Again, his policy of non-disclosure.

Little has changed with Bryant’s situation. Right now, things are quiet, so quiet that something big has to be brewing between the star and the Lakers.

Plain and simple, mitch you are destroying the lakers. You now have to trade kobe next year or he will opt out and like all of your other deals we will get nothing. I love thr lakersn win lose what ever I am a fan and that will never change but it is hard to watch this go on. Kobe is the BEST baller around get the guy some help and not bynum help. The lakers are knows for mult stars on a team, magic and kareem, kobe and shaq, now kobe and... Come on mitch get off you lazy a $$ and do somethingm if not get out of town. We will win more games this year but will we win in the playoffs, no we won’t you need talend to do that and we don’t have that besides kobe.. .

Mitch says he thinks this is a good line-up to get more wins. Yes, they will get more wins but not a champoinship. Mitch says he’s stayin with the roster. I think he’s crazy. All the other teams are getting better and better and he wants to stay with the roster. Lakers might as well but Kareem as manager. The lakers wont win another chamionship with that roster. GO LAKERS .

YES I WATCHED IT AS WELL FROM BEGINING TO END AND IT WAS A AWFUL INTERVIEW NOTHING IMPORTANT REGUARDING HIS FUTURE WAS EVER BROUGHT UP. I FROM THE BEGINING WOULD HAVE BROUGHT THE TRADE TOPIC TO KOBES ATTENTION BUT THIS WAS KOBES CHOICE TO BE ON TV TELLING EVERYONE THAT HE AND HIS WIFE ARE DOING FINE AND NOT SUPPOSEDLY GETTING DIVORCED AND IF I WERE KOBE I WOULDNT SAY MUCH ON THE FUTURE OF LA EITHER WITH THE TEAM NOT ACQUIRING A SUPERSTAR TO THIS UPCOMMING SEASON AS I SAID BEFORE TRADE KOBE GRANT HIM HIS WISH THE LAKERS CAN REBUILD FOR THE NEXT 5 TO 10 YEARS WITH BYNUM AND SEE WHERE THAT TAKES THEM KOBE IS NOT YOUR AVERAGE BASKETBALL PLAYER SO WHY WOULD HE WANT TO KEEP STRUGGLING WITH A AVERAGE TEAM. KOBE WAS TOLD BY JERRY BUSS HE WOULD BE SURROUNDED BY CHAMPIONSHIP CALIBER PLAYERS POST SHAQ (2004) SO 3 YEARS LATER WHERE ARE THEY???? .
