New York Knicks Or New Jersey Nets: Who’d Win A Zach Randolph For Vince Carter Trade?

January 18 08

The New York Post reports on the Knicks and Nets discussing a Zach Randolph-for- Vince Carter trade:

There was some speculation yesterday the Nets offered Vince Carter to the Knicks, who rejected it. According to a Western Conference source claiming knowledge of the talks, though, it was the Knicks who approached the Nets, about a month ago, offering Zach Randolph for Carter. The Nets declined.

My AM Take: Rumors, rumors, and more rumors. The latest gossip swirling the NYC had Z-Bo and VC swapping uniforms.

That’s right. New York’s two teams considered swapping headaches; reports had the Knicks sending Zach Randolph to the Nets for Vince Carter.

New Jersey squashed the deal. But this rumor is interesting because both players possess talent but are regarded as underachievers.

Hypothetically speaking, who’d win a Carter-Randolph deal? Below is your breakdown. As always, read the post, form an opinion, and hit us up in the comment box below.

Why New York Should Trade For Carter:

  • Half-man, half-amazing would buy Isiah Thomas and his dysfunctional cronies time before they’re inevitably fired.
  • This trade would help Eddie Curry return to last year’s form as The Guy down-low. Clearly, a Curry-Randolph, twin-towers experiment has failed.
  • Fans are staying away from MSG. Carter would sell tickets and temporarily put life into basketball’s Mecca.

Why New York Shouldn’t Trade For Carter:

  • This trade wouldn’t win games. Carter is a flashy, big-ticket player, who works best in fantasy leagues and highlight reels.
  • Owner James Dolan is realizing Thomas has to go. No more chances. No more time. Trading for Carter would give Zeke both and puts off rebuilding.

Why New Jersey Should Trade For Randolph:

  • Randolph would provide the Nets with a much-needed post threat. The new Big Three would be more balanced than the Carter, Richard Jefferson, and Jason Kidd trio.
  • The Nets must change their apathetic culture. Right now, they’re 18-20 and heading nowhere. Randolph, right move or not, would provide change.

Why New Jersey Shouldn’t Trade For Randolph:

  • Two words: Hoop Family. By trading for Randolph, the Nets would be housing his notorious, off-court entourage.
  • Carter is marketable and flashy; Randolph is methodical and efficient. Who’d sell tickets when the team rolls into Brooklyn?

Winner: Non-applicable.

Why: This trade, if facilitated, would be nothing more than a lateral move for the Knicks and Nets. New York’s teams have real issues and swapping each other’s migraines isn’t the answer.

Worst of all, a Randolph-Carter deal would allow New York and New Jersey to put off much-needed rebuilding projects. Thankfully, the Nets had enough sense for both teams to kybosh this deal.

Who would win a Randolph for Carter trade? New York or New Jersey? Would it matter? Get at us in the comment box below or hit us up in our fan forum.

ny would win because it would allow david lee to start and curry to dominate the post. also would have vc, crawford and q-rich playing together which would do some serious damage. .

Regardless of the pieces, NJ wins. Why? Because the Knicks suck. They’re cursed by their ownership & management. Vince might get back in touch with his inner-Mike & the Knicks would still suck, because they’re the James Dolan/Isiah Thomas Knicks, while Zach would set career highs because he’d be playing alongside Jason Kidd. Doesn’t matter, and until the Knicks fix their shit, THEY don’t matter. Fire Dolan. .

NY would be better off, but this trade wouldn’t make the Knicks that much better.Doing something like this may get people excited again, and if Carter plays well it could pay off for the Knicks. .

no one will win.Nobody can save Knicks, because they are not a NBA team, but a streetball team. And Nets,I don’t know why they trade Carter for ZL,useful?I don’t think, coz Nets should rebuild now,but ZL is a instant player.I think ZL is that kind of palyer who can bring the above-average team wining, but Nets is not that kind of team. .

if the nets gave carter up for randolph theyd be stupid as hell, they got kristic, magloire, boone, williams, malik allen, WHO would take over at sg? the nets are horrible without vince, and the knicks would change one way or the other, they need every player off the team except for dlee. bring back spreee and houston, and start from theree.. .

this is a draw, which equals a lose-lose for both squads. the only reason to bring vince to NY is marketability, he is a good player, but not really needed, he won’t make the knicks any better. both teams would be doing this for the sake of changing things up. .
