Arenas to miss Wizards’ season opener 08.27.2004

Arenas received the suspension from the NBA on Friday after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor charge of failing to maintain proper handgun registration while he was living in California in 2003. At that time, Arenas was a member of the Golden State Warriors.
"While I had a valid registration in Arizona, I did not have a registration in California" said Arenas in a statement released by the team. "It was an oversight on my part, I have dealt with the situation and I’m moving forward."
The 22-year-old Arenas — who will begin the second of a six-year, $65 million contract with the Wizards this upcoming season — will not play against the Memphis Grizzlies on November 3.
In 55 games last year, Arenas averaged 19.6 points and 5.0 assists for the Wizards.
