NBA Game Summary - Charlotte at San Antonio

01.25.2006

San Antonio, TX (Basketball News) - Beno Udrih scored 17 points off the bench and Tim Duncan had 14 along with nine rebounds as San Antonio routed Charlotte, 104-76, at the AT&T Center.

Udrih finished 7-of-11 from the field and added eight assists for the Spurs, who rebounded from a rare home loss Sunday against Denver. San Antonio shot a sizzling 56.4 percent for the game.

"They were prime tonight," said Charlotte head coach Bernie Bickerstaff of the Spurs. "They just lost one here at home and Pop (head coach Gregg Popovich) had them prime and ready. You hate to come in here after they just suffered a loss."

Jumaine Jones led the depleted Bobcats with 15 points, while Primoz Brezec and Matt Carroll each recorded 13 in the loss, Charlotte’s eighth in a row.

The Bobcats were without leading scorer Gerald Wallace, who will miss 4-to-6 weeks after spraining his left knee Friday against Orlando, while reigning Rookie of the Year Emeka Okafor continues to be hobbled by an ankle sprain.

"All the injuries right now, yeah its tough," said Bobcats point guard Brevin Knight. "But you’ve got to deal with it. You have to continue to go out and play. Tonight we just weren’t knocking down shots, and that has nothing to do with injuries."

San Antonio led this one from start to finish. Brent Barry’s three-pointer to end the first quarter gave the hosts a 26-18 advantage, and the margin reached 13 points early in the second after Fabricio Oberto knocked down a jumper 2 1/2 minutes into the frame to make the score 33-20.

Duncan’s three-point play with 51 seconds remaining before intermission extended the Spurs’ cushion to 51-34 before Knight sunk two free throws to close out the half.

The Spurs kept pouring it on after the break, as Duncan made a layup and free throw 2:13 into the third quarter for a 20-point lead. He fed Rasho Nesterovic for a dunk shortly afterward to put San Antonio up 60-38.

San Antonio carried a 73-53 advantage into the fourth quarter and went ahead by as many as 29 points after Melvin Sanders drained a jumper with 1:32 left to make it a 100-71 game.

The Spurs played without forward Robert Horry, who missed his fourth straight game due to a lower abdominal strain...San Antonio has won all four lifetime meetings between the clubs...The Spurs moved to 20-3 at home, while Charlotte dropped to 4-19 on the road.
