Seattle, WA (Basketball News) - Jason Terry’s three-pointer with 8.9 seconds left in the game capped a huge comeback as the Dallas Mavericks upended the Seattle SuperSonics, 95-92, at KeyArena.
Dirk Nowitzki had 31 points, 11 rebounds and six assists, as the Mavericks outscored the Sonics 15-2 down the stretch to notch the victory.
Rashard Lewis had 18 points for the Sonics, who coughed up a double-digit lead with five minutes left to see their win streak end at five.
Dallas scored five straight points to pull within 83-78 with 6:15 left. But Vladimir Radmanovic and Lewis hit back-to-back three-pointers to restore the double-digit advantage, at 89-78.
Dallas answered with an 8-1 run to pull within 90-86 with just over two minutes left.
After two free throws by Luke Ridnour, Michael Finley hit a very tough fade- away jumper in the lane to cut it to four again.
Ridnour then missed a three-pointer, and a Terry free throw made it a 92-89 game. Ray Allen and Radmanovic each missed jumpers, and a Nowitzki jumper made it 92-91 with 58 seconds left.
After an Antonio Daniels miss, Terry hit a three-pointer with 8.9 seconds
Josh Howard swatted an Antonio Daniels shot out of bounds with 3.8 seconds left, but the Sonics had another chance. But Lewis missed a fall-away jumper to seal the victory for Dallas.
Nowitzki hit a jumper five seconds into the second half to put the Mavericks up 53-42. But the Sonics chipped away at the lead, and a Daniels hoop with 43 seconds left in the third quarter knotted the game at 66 apiece.
In the fourth, a Howard hoop put the Mavs up 70-68 with just 11 minutes left. But Seattle ripped off eight straight points, six of them by Ridnour, to grab a 76-70 lead with 9 1/2 minutes remaining. Seattle would extend the lead to 83-73 with 6:45 left on a nice move inside by Nick Collison.
Dallas led 21-19 after one quarter, and extended it to a nine-point lead at the intermission.
