NBA Game Summary - Miami at New Orleans/Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City, OK (Basketball News) - Desmond Mason scored 24 points and David West added 20, as New Orleans/Oklahoma City used a big second quarter to blow past the Miami Heat, 107-92, at the Ford Center.

Rookie Chris Paul tallied 15 points, nine assists and six rebounds, as the Hornets won their second straight game and stopped a four-game skid against the Heat.

Dwyane Wade posted his second career triple-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, but he also turned the ball over eight times for Miami, which had a two-game winning streak broken. Shaquille O’Neal ended with 19 points and nine rebounds, but the Heat couldn’t stop a well-balanced attack for the Hornets.

Kirk Snyder scored 13 points, while Speedy Claxton had 12 points and eight assists, and Rasual Butler also scored 12 for New Orleans/Oklahoma City.

"We were able to limit them early in the game and build a big lead in the first half," West said. "Shaq was going to get his, but I thought we did a good job of limiting his touches."

The game was tied at 32 after the opening quarter, but the Hornets outscored Miami 32-13 in the second. That included the first 14 points of the quarter. Snyder started the spurt with a three-pointer and finished it with another shot from beyond the arc.

An 8-1 run to end the half moved the Hornets to a 64-45 lead. Paul had two consecutive baskets during the push.

A Mason alley-oop jam off a feed from Paul gave the Hornets their largest lead of the night at 72-50 with 7:58 left in the third. Miami only closed within 83-68 going into the fourth.

An O’Neal layup pulled the Heat to 83-72, but the Hornets pulled away by scoring the next 10 points, fueled by a three-pointer from Butler.

"When our offense isn’t working well, our defense needs to step up," O’Neal said. "They took some jumpers and got some long rebounds. There’s really just no excuse for that. They just had more energy than us."
