NBA Game Summary - Minnesota at Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA (Basketball News) - Chris Webber scored 27 points, including the game-winning basket in overtime, and also grabbed a season-high 21 rebounds as the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves, 90-89, at the Wachovia Center.

Allen Iverson contributed 19 points and dished out 10 assists while Kyle Korver tallied 13 points for Philadelphia, which has won three straight games.

Wally Szczerbiak led Minnesota with 23 points and Kevin Garnett added 19 points and seven boards in the loss.

Marko Jaric scored 14 points while Michael Olowokandi contributed eight points and grabbed 10 boards for the Timberwolves, who had a five-game winning streak snapped.

Webber capped off his ninth career 20-point, 20-rebound night with what ended up being the game-winning bucket.

Trailing 89-88 in overtime, Webber buried a jumper to put the 76ers in front 90-89 with 2:48 remaining.

"The more you’re involved in a game, the better it feels," said Webber about his comfort level during the game. "As far as shooting, I was touching the ball in my comfort spots and that’s all I ask for, is to get the ball where I’m comfortable and try to do something."

A few moments later, Anthony Carter was fouled in the paint, but missed both free throws. After a scrum for the loose ball, Webber missed a 15-foot jumper on the next possession, but made up for the miss by rejecting Garnett’s shot in the paint on the defensive end.

Then, Andre Iguodala missed a long jumper from the right wing, giving Minnesota the ball back with just under 20 seconds to go.

Garnett sliced between two defenders, but his shot was again blocked by Webber with just over seven seconds remaining. The Timberwolves kept possession, but Garnett’s desperation jumper fell short as time expired.

"They played pretty good defense. They stepped up and didn’t give us anything easy," said Szczerbiak "In overtime we scored four points, and that’s not going to get it done. Our defense was good but we just didn’t play aggressively enough in overtime."

Leading 25-20 after the opening quarter, Timberwolves rookie Rashad McCants buried a three-pointer to open an eight-point spread.

Minnesota took its biggest lead of the half, 44-35, on Szczerbiak’s trey with just under three minutes left. However, the Sixers scored the final nine points to tie the game at the break.

Four different Sixers converted buckets, with Iguodala’s layup tying the game with about 30 seconds left in the half.

Iverson led three 76ers in double-figures with 12 first-half points, while Szczerbiak paced the Timberwolves with 10 points.

The teams went back-and-forth in the third quarter with Philadelphia ending the period with a 66-62 advantage. Korver drained a jumper and Webber converted a slam off an Iverson assist to open up the four-point edge.

Clinging to an 80-73 lead, Webber threw a backdoor pass to a cutting Korver, who converted a slam and was fouled. He drained the free throw to give the Sixers a 83-73 lead with 4:27 remaining.

Minnesota scored the next 12 points, capped by Carter’s layup, to give the Timberwolves an 85-83 advantage. Szczerbiak drained a three-pointer from the right wing that tied the game prior to Carter’s bucket.

Webber responded with a half hook in the paint to tie the game at 85-85 with 23 seconds left.

Garnett’s long two-point jumper hit the back rim as time expired and the game went to overtime.
