Brown, Knicks try for first win in Sacramento

11.13.2005

(Basketball News) - The New York Knicks try once again for that elusive first victory of the season, as they continue a six-game road trip against the Sacramento Kings at ARCO Arena.

Getting off the schneid may be easier said than done for the Knicks, who have lost eight straight and nine of their last 10 in Sacramento. Their last win there came back on February 20, 1997.

The Knicks’ latest loss came on Friday with an 86-84 setback at the hands of the Golden State Warriors at The Arena. New York, still looking for the first win in the Larry Brown era, wasted a 13-point first-half lead two days after blowing a 10-point halftime margin in Portland.

Stephon Marbury had 22 points and Jamal Crawford added 19 for the Knicks, who at 0-5 are off to their worst start since opening the 1987-88 campaign with five consecutive losses.

New York’s worst start in franchise history came during the 1985-86 season when the began the year with eight straight losses. The Knicks also lost seven in a row to kick off the 1982-83 season.

The Knicks, who will also visit Utah, the Lakers and Denver on its trek, are 0-3 away from home this season.

Sacramento, meanwhile, comes into tonight’s tilt on a winning note after Peja Stojakovic scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Kings past Denver, 101-85.

Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Kevin Martin both chipped in 14 points for the Kings, who put an end to a two-game losing streak and won for the first time at home this season.

Bonzi Wells netted 13, while Brad Miller finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

Sacramento, which is in the midst of a four-game homestand, is 1-1 in its building this season.

The Kings beat the Knicks twice last season and have won three straight and four of the last five overall matchups.
