Celtics sign free agent Gugliotta

08.16.2004

Boston, MA (Basketball News) - The Boston Celtics Monday signed free agent forward Tom Gugliotta. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Gugliotta split time last season with Phoenix and Utah and averaged 2.9 points and 3,4 rebounds in 55 games. He was traded by the Suns to the Jazz along with a first-round pick in February in exchange for Keon Clark and Ben Handlogten.

"We’re getting a very versatile player," said executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge, who coached Gugliotta in Phoenix. "Along with his versatility, I think his physical and mental toughness are his greatest assets."

The 34-year-old Gugliotta has also enjoyed stints with Washington, Golden State and Minnesota. In 716 career NBA contests, he has averaged 13.5 points and 7.5 boards per outing.
