Duke guard Nelson undergoes surgery

11.29.2005

Durham, NC (Basketball News) - Duke guard DeMarcus Nelson underwent successful ankle surgery and is expected to miss the next 6-to-8 weeks.

The guard fractured the media malleolus of his right tibia versus Drexel in the semifinals of the NIT Tip-off Classic last Wednesday. He will be evaluated regularly by Dr. Claude T. Moorman and Dr. Jim Nunley over the duration of the rehab.

"We will definitely miss DeMarcus," Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "We’re pleased that the surgery was successful and that we can expect him to be back at 100 percent later in the season."

Nelson averaged 6.5 points and 3.3 rebounds in four games this season for the Blue Devils (5-0), who play at Indiana Wednesday night as part of the ACC/Big 10 Challenge.
