Heat take to the court against Marbury and the Suns

11.22.2003

Phoenix, AZ (Basketball News) - The Phoenix Suns will attempt to win their third in a row tonight when they welcome rookie Dwyane Wade and the struggling Miami Heat to America West Arena.

On Thursday, Shawn Marion led seven Phoenix players in double figures with 16 points, as the Suns spoiled Johnny Davis’ Magic coaching debut with a 96-89 victory over Orlando in front of their home crowd.

Stephon Marbury added 14 points and 11 assists for the Suns, who have won two straight following a three-game losing streak.

The Suns have not scored 100 points in any of their 11 games this season, matching a franchise record to start a season. The 1996-97 Phoenix team also went the first 11 games without reaching the 100-point plateau.

Phoenix hit 51 percent of its shots against the Magic.

The Suns are 4-3 as the host this season.

The Heat fell to Golden State, 101-91, on Friday at the Arena.

Lamar Odom delivered 20 points and eight rebounds for the Heat, who have lost two straight and three of their last four.

Miami took a 53-52 lead on Brian Grant’s 19-foot jumper less than a minute into the quarter.

The Warriors then used a 29-10 run to build its biggest lead of the game. Erick Dampier’s layup with 1:37 left in the third gave them a commanding 81-63 edge.

Mike Dunleavy posted seven points and Dampier registered six during the decisive flurry.

The Heat got within 99-91 in the final minute of the fourth quarter.

Miami is 1-8 on the road this season.

In 2002-03, Miami won both meetings between the two teams.

Overall, the Heat have won three in a row, while Phoenix has won six of the last 10 meetings between the two clubs.
