Iverson, Nuggets down Sonics

12.29.2006

Denver, CO (Basketball News) - Allen Iverson poured in a game-high 44 points and dished out 10 assists to pace Denver to a 112-98 thrashing of Seattle at the Pepsi Center.

Iverson, in his third game as a Nugget, shot a sizzling 17-of-29 from the field and 9-of-12 from the line. Earl Boykins came off the bench and scored 24 points while Reggie Evans added nine points and pulled down 18 boards for Denver.

The Nuggets, who have won two straight and four of five, shot 49 percent from the floor.

Damien Wilkins netted 26 points and had five steals for the SuperSonics, who had a two-game winning streak snapped and lost for the seventh time in nine contests. Luke Ridnour posted 16 points with five assists and Earl Watson donated 15 points with seven helpers in defeat.

A Boykins layup and free throw finished up a 35-point first quarter for Denver, which held an eight-point lead entering the second. The SuperSonics, however, closed the gap to four, 60-56, just before halftime on a pair of hits from the charity stripe by Saer Sene.

The duo of Iverson and Boykins helped the Nuggets maintain their lead in the third. In the last 1 1/2 minutes of the period, both players converted a pair from the line, and Boykins added a free throw after Seattle’s Chris Wilcox was ejected for his second technical. Boykins then followed up by drilling a trey to put Denver up 85-76.

The Nuggets pulled away in the fourth, extending their advantage to 20 at 111-91 on Evans’ layup with 2:01 remaining.

Game Notes

Seattle finished 46 percent shooting...Both teams were 4-of-14 (28.6 percent) from three-point range...Johan Petro had 11 points for the SuperSonics...Denver’s Eduardo Najera scored nine points.
