James and Marion named NBA Players of the Week

New York, NY (Basketball News) - Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James and Phoenix Suns forward Shawn Marion were named Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, November 22 through Sunday, November 28.

James posted averages of 29.7 points, 6.7 assists, 6.3 rebounds and 2.33 steals last week, helping the Cavaliers to a 3-0 mark.

On November 24 versus Detroit, he poured in a career-high 43 points to go along with six boards, five assists and three steals, as Cleveland defeated the Pistons. Two days later, he collected 20 points, eight assists and six rebounds in a win over Boston. James then contributed 26 points, seven boards and seven assists in a victory over Chicago on Saturday.

Marion led the Suns to a 3-0 record last week, as he averaged 25.7 points and 14.3 rebounds per game.

He had 21 points and a season-high 16 boards in a victory over Chicago on November 22 and then netted 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a triumph over Milwaukee two days later. Marion then completed his stellar week on Friday with a 33-point, 15-board effort in a win over New Orleans.

Other nominees for Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki, Indiana’s Jamaal Tinsley, the Clippers’ Elton Brand, Miami’s Shaquille O’Neal and Dwyane Wade, Minnesota’s Kevin Garnett, Orlando’s Steve Francis, Philadelphia’s Allen Iverson, Portland’s Zach Randolph, Seattle’s Rashard Lewis and Washington’s Larry Hughes and Antawn Jamison.
