04.23.2004

New York, NY (Basketball News) - Dallas Mavericks forward Antawn Jamison captured the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year Award on Friday. The award honors the league’s top reserve player.

Jamison received 43 first-place votes and 338 points from a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada.

Al Harrington of the Indiana Pacers finished second in the voting with 275 points, while the Spurs’ Manu Ginobili placed third with 244.

The 27-year-old Jamison played in all 82 regular-season games for the Mavericks in 2003-04 and averaged 14.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.01 steal per contest.

He earned two starts for Dallas after being a steady starter for Golden State the previous four campaigns. The durable forward has not missed a game in the last four seasons.

A nine-player trade on August 18, 2003 landed Jamison in Dallas. He boasts a 19.1 career scoring average over six NBA seasons.
