Jazz closeout homestand versus Blazers

Utah is 2-2 on the current homestand. On Monday, Mehmet Okur scored 24 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, as the Jazz dominated the Detroit Pistons on the boards for a 92-78 victory at the Delta Center.

Andrei Kirilenko totaled 22 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists in the win over the Pistons for Utah, while Jarron Collins ended with 14 rebounds for the Jazz, who outrebounded the Pistons, 55-27.

Kirilenko also blocked four shots as the Jazz overcame injuries to snap Detroit’s six-game winning streak and send the Pistons to just their third loss in 18 games this season.

Jazz center Greg Ostertag left Monday’s game in the first quarter with a knee injury. Guards Gordan Giricek (Achilles) and Deron Williams (ear infection) also didn’t play.

Giricek, Ostertag and Williams are all questionable for tonight’s game.

The Jazz are just 4-8 as the host this season. After tonight’s game, Utah will embark on a five-game road trip that consists of games against Indiana, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Boston and New York.

Portland will try and get back on the winning track. All-Star Tracy McGrady poured in 35 points and pulled down seven rebounds in Houston’s 100-86 victory over the Trail Blazers on Sunday at the Rose Garden.

Sebastian Telfair had 17 points in the loss to the Rockets for Portland, which has lost seven of its last eight games overall. Zach Randolph finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Joel Przybilla pulled down 15 rebounds and Ruben Patterson scored 12 points for the Blazers.

The Trail Blazers are 2-8 on the road this season. They return home on Friday to play the Seattle SuperSonics and will then host the Washington Wizards on Sunday at the Rose Garden.

This is the second meeting of the season between the clubs. On December 4th, Okur dropped in 28 points and added eight rebounds to lead the Jazz past Portland, 98-93, at the Rose Garden.

The Jazz have won two of three and three of their last five meetings in this series. The Trail Blazers have lost two straight and seven of their last eight at Utah.
