Jazz continue to play sweet music, rout Clippers

11.15.2006

Salt Lake City, UT (Basketball News) - Mehmet Okur scored 27 points and Matt Harpring added 22 in Utah’s 112-90 rout of the Los Angeles Clippers at the Delta Center.

Carlos Boozer ended with 16 points and 15 rebounds for the Jazz, who at 7-1 are off to their best start since the lockout season of 1999 when they won nine of their first 10 contests.

Deron Williams also had 16 points for Utah, which shot 51.2 percent from the field and pulled away by outscoring the Clippers, 59-36, in the second half. The Jazz forced 19 turnovers, leading to 22 points.

Cuttino Mobley scored 18 and Corey Maggette tallied 17 points for Los Angeles, which had its five-game winning streak snapped. The Clippers have lost seven in a row at Utah.

The Clippers led 54-53 at the half and Elton Brand’s layup pulled LA into a tie at 72 with 1:49 remaining in the third quarter. However, the Jazz scored the next 11 points, bridging the end of the period into the fourth.

Ronnie Brewer’s three-point play started the spurt and it ended on Harpring’s driving layup.

Harpring’s tip shot extended the margin to 90-73 with 8:16 remaining and the Clippers never challenged for the lead after that, as the Jazz opened a 23- point lead down the stretch.

Brewer finished with 12 points, as the Jazz dominated in the paint, powering to a 54-34 margin. It was sparked by 11 offensive rebounds to just three for the Clippers.

Brand had 16 points, while Sam Cassell and Tim Thomas each had 12 in a losing effort.

Utah was in front 25-23 after one quarter, but the Clippers led by as many as six in the second.

Game Notes

The home team has won eight straight meetings...The Jazz played without forward Andrei Kirilenko, who is sidelined with a sprained ankle...Quinton Ross scored 11 for the Clippers.
