Jazz down Spurs behind Boozer’s 23

11.30.2006

Salt Lake City, UT (Basketball News) - Carlos Boozer scored 23 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead the Utah Jazz to an 83-75 victory over the San Antonio Spurs.

Tim Duncan scored 21 and pulled down 10 boards for the Spurs, who have lost two in a row and three of four. Bruce Bowen added 17 points, and Tony Parker scored 14 and doled out five assists for the Spurs.

"We had some turnovers down the stretch when it was a one, two, three-point game, and they made some shots there that really turned the game in their favor," said Duncan.

Deron Williams scored 15 points and tallied nine assists, and hit all four three-pointers he attempted to help the Jazz snap two-game losing skid. Matt Harpring scored 13 points and raked in 12 rebounds for Utah.

"Boozer was good tonight," said Williams. "We can always go to him to get buckets. When we need a big basket we’re going to go down low and let him work."

Mehmet Okur added 10 points for the Jazz.

A Bowen jumper cut the Utah lead to 73-71 with just under four minutes left in the game, but the Jazz closed the game on a 10-4 run to seal the win. Williams hit back-to-back baskets, and Harpring followed a Parker lay-up with one of his own to give the Jazz an 80-73 lead. Okur followed by drilling a wide-open shot with one foot on the arc to ice the game, putting Utah up 82-73 with 1:01 left.

The Jazz had taken control of the game with a 13-4 run to open the second half. A Boozer jumper with just under eight minutes left in the third quarter staked Utah out to a 50-43 advantage.

Duncan scored eight points in the first quarter to lead the Spurs to a 23-16 lead going into the second.

A driving lay-up by Duncan put the Spurs up 33-23 with 5:52 left in the first half. Utah closed in on the San Antonio lead, though, scoring eight straight at one point to cut the Spurs lead to one at 36-35.

San Antonio led 39-37 at the end of the first half.
