Jazz hope to extend winning streak against Minnesota

01.22.2007

(Basketball News) - The Utah Jazz go for their fourth straight win, as they host Northwest Division-rival Minnesota tonight at EnergySolutions Arena.

This is the second of four meetings between the squads this season. The Timberwolves defeated Utah, 110-103, on December 8th at the Target Center.

Minnesota has won three of its last five at Utah. The Timberwolves have won four of the last seven contests in the series.

Utah opens a three-game homestand this evening. Mehmet Okur posted 21 points and 11 rebounds, as the Jazz topped the Chicago Bulls, 95-85, on Saturday at the United Center.

Carlos Boozer finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds in the victory over Chicago for the Jazz, who have won three in a row after a four-game losing streak. Derek Fisher scored 14 points and Deron Williams contributed 12 points and seven assists in defeat.

The Jazz are 14-4 at home this season. They will also host the Memphis Grizzlies and Denver Nuggets on the current homestand.

Minnesota plays the second of a five-game road trip. On Sunday, Shawn Marion posted 17 points and a career-high tying 20 rebounds, as the scorching Phoenix Suns extended their winning streak to 13 games with a 131-102 win over the Timberwolves at US Airways Center.

Randy Foye netted a career-high 25 points in his first-career start for the Timberwolves, who have lost their last three games overall. Troy Hudson netted 22 points off the bench, and Trenton Hassell added 20 points and seven boards.

Minnesota was without the services of forward Kevin Garnett and guard Ricky Davis, who was suspended one game for leaving the bench and walking into the locker room during the 104-98 double overtime loss to the Pistons on Friday. Garnett, meanwhile, was suspended for his involvement in an altercation during that same game.

Both players are eligible to return to the court tonight.

The Timberwolves are 8-11 on the road this season. They are also scheduled to visit Portland, Seattle and the Clippers on the swing.
