Jazz host Raptors

01.17.2006

(Basketball News) - The Utah Jazz try and halt a two-game losing streak this evening when they welcome the Toronto Raptors to the Delta Center.

On Monday, Utah found itself on the wrong end of a 103-92 overtime decision to the Los Angeles Clippers at the Staples Center.

Mehmet Okur notched 19 points while Gordan Giricek and Andrei Kirilenko added 17 apiece to pace the Jazz. Kirilenko posted a double-double with 12 rebounds to lead Utah, which suffered only its third loss in the past 11 games.

With the game tied at 89 apiece in overtime, the Clippers reeled off nine straight points, keyed by six points from Elton Brand, to forge ahead 98-89 with 1:35 left in the game.

The Jazz, who will head to Denver on Friday, are 8-9 in their building this season. Utah is 5-6 on the second night of back-to-back games, but is just 0-3 when the second game is at home.

Toronto, meanwhile, comes in on a winning note after a record-setting performance on Sunday. Jalen Rose came off the bench to drop in a season-high 31 points and dish out six assists as Toronto trounced New York, 129-103, at Air Canada Centre.

The 129 points were a franchise record for the Raptors.

Morris Peterson added a season-high 28 points for the Raptors, who won for the second consecutive time. Chris Bosh chipped in with 23 points and six rebounds while Jose Calderon, filling in for an injured Mike James, had a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists.

James is questionable for tonight’s affair with back spasms.

Toronto, which will be starting a five-game road trip tonight, is 7-11 away from home this season.

The Jazz defeated the Raptors earlier in the season and has won five of the last eight meetings. Toronto has also dropped three of five at the Delta Center and is just 3-6 in Utah.

A win tonight would give the Jazz their fourth season sweep of the year after sweeping one opponent last season. Utah also took both games from Detroit, Milwaukee and Philadelphia this year.
