Kidd watches as Nets lose to Toronto

11.22.2003

East Rutherford, NJ (Basketball News) - New Jersey Nets point guard Jason Kidd missed Saturday’s 81-80 loss to Toronto because of a sore left knee.

Swelling in the knee prevented Kidd from practicing the last three days and Nets coach Byron Scott decided to give Kidd the day off as a precautionary measure. Zoran Planinic started at point guard instead of Kidd for the two- time defending Eastern Conference champions.

By sitting Saturday, Kidd will now have a week between games. The Nets last played on Tuesday against New Orleans and won’t play again until the start of a five-game western trip next Tuesday at Seattle.

Kidd underwent an MRI exam earlier this week and the results were negative.

In 11 games this season, Kidd is averaging 16.8 points and 9.6 assists.

Planinic finished with four points in the loss.
