Magic host Sonics

02.24.2006

(Basketball News) - The Seattle SuperSonics will aim for their second straight win tonight when they continue their six-game road trip against the Orlando Magic at TD Waterhouse Centre.

On Wednesday, Ray Allen scored 33 points as Seattle downed the Atlanta Hawks, 114-109, at Philips Arena.

Rashard Lewis posted 25 points and 10 rebounds for the Sonics, who halted a seven-game road losing streak and ended the longest such skid since dropping eight straight from November 24-December 22, 1991.

The Sonics, who are just 9-20 as the guest this season, won for only the second time in 10 games overall.

In other team news, the Sonics were involved in a deal before the NBA’s trade deadline. Seattle, Denver, Sacramento and the Portland Trail Blazers completed a four-way trade.

Denver acquired Seattle forward Reggie Evans and Portland’s Ruben Patterson and Charles Smith in exchange for sending guard Earl Watson and forward Byron Russell, along with a future second-round draft pick, to the Sonics. Portland received Denver guard Voshon Lenard and Seattle center Vitaly Potapenko, who was immediately traded to Sacramento, along with forward Sergei Monia, for forward Brian Skinner.

Orlando, meanwhile, started the post-Steve Francis era on Wednesday by losing 96-93 to the New Jersey Nets at Continental Airlines Arena. The Magic played with only nine members of the team after trading Francis to the New York Knicks for Trevor Ariza and Anfernee Hardaway.

Keyon Dooling stepped it up for the Magic with a career-high 23 points and six assists, while Dwight Howard added 17 points and six boards in Orlando’s eighth setback in a row and 12th in 13 tries. The Magic also fell to 6-21 on the road this season.

But Orlando will return home for Friday’s matchup with the Sonics. The Magic sport a 13-13 mark at TD Waterhouse Centre this season.

Seattle won the previous meeting this season at home by a 113-104 score on January 11. The Sonics have won two straight and seven of the last 10 meetings in this series.
