|
(Basketball News) - The Memphis Grizzlies take the court on Tuesday against the Denver Nuggets at FedExForum in a battle for playoff positioning in the Western Conference. Denver is 2-0 against Memphis this season, and has won three of the last four meetings overall. The Nuggets ended a five-game road losing streak in this series with a 97-94 overtime decision on February 25th.
The teams are currently tied for seventh place in the standings — three games ahead of ninth-place Minnesota, which is on the outside of the playoff picture. They are also just two games behind sixth-place Houston in the West.
Memphis has won two straight games. On Sunday, Mike Miller had 22 points and six rebounds as the Grizzlies cruised past the Los Angeles Lakers, 102-82. Lorenzen Wright had 16 points and seven rebounds for the Grizzlies, who had lost three straight before their current spurt. Overall, Memphis has won six of its last 10 outings.
The Grizzlies, who have dropped three of their last four at home, will visit the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday at Air Canada Centre. It will be the final meeting of the season between the clubs. On March 4th, Memphis defeated the Raptors, 86-75, in front of its home crowd.
After Wednesday’s game, Memphis returns home for two contests as it will host the Miami Heat on Friday and the Charlotte Bobcats on Sunday. The Grizzlies lost to the Heat, 92-84, on December 10th at AmericanAirlines Arena, while they defeated the Bobcats, 109-89, on January 14th at the Charlotte Coliseum. It will be the second and final contest of the 2004-05 campaign for Memphis against Miami and Charlotte.
Memphis is scheduled to split its final 10 games of the season evenly between the FedExForum and the road.
Miller has scored in double-digits in four of his last five games. He is averaging 13.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists in his last 10 contests.
