Alston headed north to Toronto

07.7.2004

Toronto, ON (Basketball News) - The Toronto Raptors have reportedly signed free agent point guard Rafer Alston to a six-year deal.

According to TSN.ca, Alston could earn up to $30 million. Free agents, however, are not allowed to officially sign with other teams until July 14.

The 27-year-old former playground legend played for Miami last season, averaging 10.2 points and 4.5 assists per contest. Alston has hit a three- pointer in a franchise-record 48 consecutive games for the Heat. He was a second-round draft choice of Milwaukee in 1998.

Alston, a Fresno State product, inked a 10-day contract with the Raptors in January of 2003. He then signed for the rest of the season and averaged 7.8 points and 4.1 assists in 47 games.
